Finley Fair: Serving the Future Trip to Nairobi

May 18, 2026 - Finley Fair, one of our 17 Molten athletes, recently took a trip to Nairobi, Kenya with Chiaka Ogbogu in partnership with the African Leadership organization.

During the trip, Finley participated in Serving the Future clinics and spent time at New Dawn School. The mission created a space in Kenya where young athletes could be encouraged not only through sport but also through leadership, mentorship, faith, discipline and purpose. It also helped raise support for New Dawn Educational Center in the Huruma slum, utilizing sport as a bridge to make impact beyond the court. An experience of a lifetime!

What has this experience meant to you, and how has it impacted your life?

My time in Nairobi, Kenya deeply impacted my life in ways I will carry with me forever. Getting to serve alongside Chiaka Ogbogu was so fun! While her accomplishments in volleyball are remarkable, what stood out most was her kindness, humility, and the joyful atmosphere she created. She used the sport not just to teach skills. but to encourage, connect with and uplift the students we were with.

Meeting and playing volleyball with the kids in the clinic changed me profoundly. Many of them live in the slums of Nairobi and have very little materially. yet they carried an infectious joy. gratitude, and contentment that was impossible to ignore. Visiting their homes and hearing pieces of their stories gave me a new perspective on what truly matters. Despite difficult circumstances, they excitedly welcomed us with joy and hope.

This experience challenged me to live with greater gratitude. compassion, and purpose. It reminded me that joy is not found in possessions or comfort, but often in community, faith, resilience, and serving others. It was a tremendous privilege to serve alongside Chiaka and to witness firsthand how sports can build confidence, connection, and hope across cultures.
